                             Room 5 Newsletter               2/05/2016
Hello and Kia ora,

Welcome back to term two. I hope all the children have had a good and relaxing break.

Term Two Learning Focus
Our school wide focus continues about ‘citizenship’. We have done a reflection today and hope to continue on the citizenship building from term one.
In reading, children will be working in reading groups according to their abilities. For silent reading, children will have the opportunity to choose a text that is interesting and it will encourage each child to read daily independently.
In writing, we will be focusing on punctuation and how this aspect of writing can help ourselves and the reader understand the messages we are aiming to convey. Spelling is a very important component of writing and we will be learning the essential spelling list words, big learning curriculum words, words that we have misspelt in our writing and spelling under scrutiny programme.
In Mathematics, the main topic of learning will be ‘Number’ and ‘Algebra’ we continue learning about place value and strategies to workout addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems.
Rippa rugby tournament is on Thursday the 26th of May at Albert Park. We are entering a year 7 and 8 team. A permission slip will go home to those children who have been selected to play. Lower Waipa 7’s tournament is on Wednesday the 2ndh of June. Teams will be organised closer to the day. The children look forward to this day representing our school on the sporting field.
This term house sports is football and netball.

Camp News
Thanks for returning forms and making payments towards our up and coming camp. We are looking forward to it!

Homework
Reading Logs will continue this year. The reading logs are a great way to encourage your child to read and record their thoughts about what they are reading. Again we are using the maths homework books. Children are to do one page per week and hand in on Friday. Again maths buddy will operate as a homework tool. Research assignments will be assigned at least once a term. Information will go home when assignment is set. Other homework tasks are set during each week.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thanks
Phillip
